Rihsin Elementary School was founded in 1918. The name Rihsin originates from a famous inscription on an ancient bronze artifact known as the “商湯盤銘”, which means, “If you can improve yourself in a day, do so each day, forever building on improvement.”
In the beginning, Rihsin was a small school surrounded by fish farms and the casuarina forest. It is located in the old district named “Yancheng.”
In 1665, General Chen Yong Hua established a new salt work in Yancheng. According to history, this was the first salt work in Taiwan. General Chen Yong Hua not only set up the salt work but also taught people how to manufacture better salt. Thus, our hometown is now called “Yancheng”, meaning “salt area” in Taiwanese.
In 1971, Mayor Lin announced the end of the solar salt manufacturing.
Today, Rihsin Elementary School is over 100 years old. Everyone is welcome to come and explore our rich historical community.
